Biography

Alex has spent the last decade leading in large multisite churches across the country, where he discovered that he loves leading and helping others lead through major organizational transition. A people-developer at heart, Alex has been involved with training and coaching thousands of leaders across a variety of different industries as a consultant.

Alex started his career at Pathways Church, an urban church in Denver, Colorado. As the midweek pastor, he pioneered a midweek gathering for the weekend warriors of Denver who struggled to make it to weekend services. The response was overwhelming and quickly came to account for 20 percent of weekly attendance. After two years at Pathways, Alex jumped at the opportunity to join the staff of Seacoast Church as the campus pastor for their Asheville, North Carolina location. Many consider this to be the first church to successfully adopt a multisite model. During his time with Seacoast, Alex helped lead the turnaround of the Asheville campus, where he saw attendance and offerings double during his tenure, primarily through timely hires and an emphasis on leadership and team development. During this time, he also became a senior associate with GiANT Worldwide, where he consulted with nonprofits developing leaders and building teams. He then took on a turnaround project at The Chapel in Barrington, Illinois before coming to the Pacific Northwest, where he joined the staff at Highlands Community Church in Renton, Washington. At Highlands, he helped facilitate a senior leadership transition and leads their small group ministry, which has grown 20 percent during his tenure.

Alex has been a stabilizing presence for organizations navigating their way through leadership failure and organizational change, helping them regroup and move forward into the future with a clearer sense of their mission. His greatest accomplishment is the difference he has personally witnessed in the lives of the leaders he has trained and mentored, who have found their ‘primal yelp’ and gone on to lead their organizations with character and conviction.

Alex received his bachelor’s in psychology from Wheaton College in Illinois and a Master of Divinity from Denver Seminary. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in industrial-organizational psychology at Seattle Pacific University where his research focuses on leadership. He has been married to his wife, Katey, since 2009 and they have three children.

“An area of leadership that is often overlooked is self-awareness. Alex is excellent at showing a leader what it looks like to sit across from the table from them. I am a better leader because of his leadership teaching and coaching. Alex also provides helpful leadership language that our team frequency uses. This has allowed our team to not only grow individually, but we’re now able to better communicate with each other, bringing greater team unity.”
